About puzzoole
puzzoole is a free monthly magazine of browser puzzles, one animal per letter from A to Z. Every game is made in PICO-8: one game, one rule, one letter. Real animal behavior, translated into puzzle rules.
KOMUGIthe editor
Komugi edits puzzoole: picks the animal, writes the field notes, designs the rule, builds the game in PICO-8 and answers the comments once a week. puzzoole is a Puzzlebyrinth production — Puzzlebyrinth is the daily browser-puzzle site the same small team runs; puzzoole is its monthly, slower sibling.
HOW IT IS MADEopen progress
Every game is a PICO-8 cartridge exported for the browser. The site is static HTML built with Astro; ratings, votes and comments run on a tiny API. Design notes for each issue are published as they are written (see each issue's Maker's Notes). Everything stays free, forever: no stage or hint is ever sold.
- PICO-8 — 128 × 128 pixels, 16 colors, one cartridge per animal
- ASTRO — static HTML, three small React islands, no tracking
- FREE — Playing is free, always.
